The GB2RN Shack...

The GB2RN shack is situated in the Bridge Wireless Office (BWO).  This sound-proofed office was manned continually whilst at sea, and in harbour on a watch-keeping basis by a Petty Officer Telegraphist, a Yeoman of Signals, and up to twelve telegraphists and signalmen.

All signals addressed to HMS Belfast were received in this compartment and having been logged and duplicated, were distributed to the Captain, heads of department and to any officers concerned.

It was also from here that outgoing radio messages were transmitted.   The main Wireless Telegraphy (W/T) transmitters were dispersed throughout the ship, but were keyed remotely from this position and were capable of providing communications with other ships of the fleet, aircraft and shore wireless stations worldwide.
